Secret Service Department

Very brief-lived political police-enforcement and intelligence department independent of the MetropolitanPolice, headed by RobertAnderson, which lasted throughout the IrishFenian scares of 1867-68. Anderson, later Sir Robert, would come to head the CriminalInvestigationDepartment (CID) in the middle of the period of the JackTheRipper killings.
