Shadows In The Fog

Inspector MilesStafford, MetropolitanPolice

It turns out that BillyMalone took his advance this morning and went out and had a few, and said some things that he shouldn't...another gang of thieves (including HarryMcDonald) got wind of the break-in and decided this would be a good time to stage a heist of their own. A couple of alert bobbies noticed suspicious activities in the BritishMuseum, and sent word to their superiors, summoning ScotlandYard inspector MilesStafford. Inspector Stafford was spotted by CatherineRussell? and ElizabethMontcliff? (in the area) on his way to the museum, and he quickly answered their questions. From him, they learned the location of the ritual. He arrived at the museum to find the thieves in a fracas with the bobbies, and trying to make good their escape. One of the thieves, HarryMcDonald, managed to escape -- the others were all captured by the police.

As more police arrived to put down the fracas, a drunken Baron RoderickLancaster wandered by. A meddlesome sort, Baron Lancaster took issue with Inspector Stafford's handling of the arrest of the thieves, and took the issue as far as a short exchange of blows.

Comments from the peanut gallery

One question worth considering here is why the MetropolitanPolice were called in for a case clearly within the CityPolice jurisdiction. Cooperation between services is certainly the norm, which suggests that Stafford's involvement was not an overreach. But presumably the bobbies either already knew that they should call in the Met, or else they told their superiors in the CityPolice who then passed it to Stafford of the Met. In either case, there is something funny here: for some reason, ScotlandYard is paying close attention to the BritishMuseum, and has informed the CityPolice of this. So... why?
