Metropolitan Police District (MPD)

The entire area policed by the MetropolitanPolice. Defined in the Schedule to Sir RobertPeel's Police Act as an area covered by a radius of up to 11km (7 miles) from CharingCross, and containing 88 parishes, liberties and hamlets. The MPD has been steadily increased from time to time, and by the 1980s covered about 1813 [square kilometers] (700 sq miles), mostly within a 24km (15 mile) radius of CharingCross and embracing the 32 Greater London boroughs, nine present and former Urban Districts in the counties of Essex, Hertfordshire and Surrey, and one parish each in Essex and Herts. ...

At all times, the CityOfLondon? has been excluded from the MPD, and since 1889 the parks, with the exception of HydePark?, have been separately policed. The BritishTransportPolice are responsible for the main line railway stations and the Underground?.
